HVAC Rebates & Tax Credits for NC Homeowners

A newly installed high-efficiency HVAC system
High-efficiency upgrades can qualify for rebates and tax credits.

A high-efficiency upgrade can come with real savings beyond lower bills. Here are the incentives NC homeowners should know about.

Federal tax credit (25C)

The federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (25C) can cover 30% of the cost of qualifying equipment — up to $2,000 a year for a qualifying heat pump, and up to $600 for a qualifying high-efficiency AC or furnace (within an annual cap). You claim it on your tax return for the year the system is installed.

Home energy rebates

Federal home-energy rebate programs (funded by the Inflation Reduction Act and administered through the state) offer additional savings on efficient equipment, with the largest amounts for income-qualified households. Availability and amounts roll out over time — ask us what’s active right now.

Utility rebates

Local utilities such as Duke Energy frequently offer rebates on high-efficiency heat pumps and smart thermostats. These stack with federal incentives and change periodically.

Manufacturer rebates

Equipment makers run seasonal rebate promotions, especially in spring and fall. We’ll let you know about any current offers when we quote your system.

How to claim & keep records

Keep your itemized invoice and the manufacturer’s efficiency certificate (AHRI). We provide the documentation you need for credits and rebates.

Important

Verify before you count on it. Incentive amounts, eligibility, and deadlines change. This is general information, not tax advice — confirm current programs and consult a tax professional. We stay up to date and will point you to what applies to your project.
